The handbrakes on some tricycles were smaller than 60 millimeters, which would make them difficult for baby riders to handle.
The test results made some young parents worry about the potential for accidents when their kids are first learning to ride.
Zhang Na, 28, the mother of two-year-old twin-boys in Weifang, Shandong Province, told the Global Times Sunday that she was confused by safety warnings when she decided to purchase a tricycle for her kids.
"I don't know which elements should be considered when buying a baby tricycle," Zhang said.
"The news report said that there are too many invisible dangers."
"The report said that even many bicycles sold in the supermarket are not safe enough, so it's really hard for we parents to choose," Zhang said.
Authorities in Guangdong said that in addition to safety defects in tricycles, tests showed safety problems with about 25 percent of baby and children's clothing. The problems mainly concerned the concentration of fiber in the garments.
