Beijing to control funeral charges

Wu Shimin, director of the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau, said that the municipal government will standardize the charge for cremations during an interview on Beijing Public Service Radio on March 10.
He indicated that Beijing will continue reforms in funeral service industry and release a series of low-cost services. Arranged with families and the local civil affairs department, ashes can be scattered into the sea by two family members free of charge; an urn will be priced at about 100 yuan ($14.64), transportation, storage and cremation at 1,000 yuan and management cost for the cemetery plot is 10,000 yuan every 20 years.
