President Hu Jintao's microblog on a Chinese-language site was closed Monday due to network meltdown caused by an inflating number of bloggers following and commenting on the account.
The micro blog account holder, whose identity was confirmed by the website on February 1, registered on t.people.com.cn Sunday.
His profile reads General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission.
On June 20, 2008, President Hu talked with net users via the People's Daily online forum, the first time that China's top leaders have conducted direct online communications with web users.
Some users described Hu as "our netizen friend Hu Jintao."
