Child smuggling up

Courts across the nation handled 1,107 child smuggling cases from January to October, representing an 11.25 percent increase year-on-year, Wang Shaonan, spokesman of the Supreme People's Court, said Thursday.

Some 1,061 criminals were either sentenced to prison for five years or above, life imprisonment or given the death penalty.

Two criminals who were convicted of child smuggling, Hu Minghua and Su Bingde, were executed.

Wang added that child smuggling crimes are more organized.

Some of the children were forced to be beggars and commit robbery, Wang said.
