A local court in Minhang district, Shanghai ruled on Thursday that the traffic police there violated the law in September by entrapping a warm-hearted driver. The traffic police team was asked to pay 50 yuan ($7.32) in litigation fees.
The saga started when a 19-year-old driver, Sun Zhongjie, a migrant worker from Henan Province, was detained for what police said was an illegal cab. Sun had offered a ride to a person working in the sting operation. Sun, outraged, cut his finger to prove his innocence.
The Pudong New Area government admitted last month to entrapping Sun as part of their plan against illegal cabs.
