6 die in blaze

Six people were killed and three others injured on Thursday during a restaurant fire in eastern Shandong Province's Qingyun county, local authorities said.

Firefighters rescued seven people, three of whom suffered minor injuries, said a spokesman with the county's publicity department.

The fire occurred at 2:30 am and was under control at 4 am, the spokesman said. The police are investigating the cause of the fire, said the spokesman who gave no further details. A total of 831 people were killed in fire accidents in China during the first 10 months this year, down 26 percent yearon- year, according to official figures released on Thursday.

Another 509 people were also injured in 106,191 fire accidents throughout China (excluding those in forests, prairies, mines and military facilities) by the end of October, said a national conference on fire control in Changsha, capital of Central China's Hunan Province, citing figures from the fire control department of the Ministry of Public Security.
