China should take measures to strengthen multimedia education in order to enhance the development of both domestic and global citizenship in today's youth, according to an plan of action set at the Second International Forum on Media Literacy Education organized by the Communication University of China on Saturday
Media literacy generally refers to teaching students how to access, understand and create in a variety of contexts and digital formats.
More than 20 scholars from British, Japanese and Chinese universities discussed the topic of "media literacy and citizen's development" to work out a plan of action, urging researchers in multimedia education to include relevant courses in primary and high school curriculums in China.
"Media is playing a more important role in children's development. The modern education should also develop through multimedia literacy," said Yuan Jun, vice president of the Communication University of China.
