The post stirred an immediate public outcry after it was re-circulated on several websites, including tianya.cn.
"Kind-hearted citizens enthusiastically donate their hot blood to save lives. It is a real shame," a college student named Wu Di in Xi'an told the Global Times Wednesday.
"My heart is chilled. I will never donate my blood before the authorities adopt rigorous rules and enhance management levels," a resident named Xu Caiyan said.
"I am wondering where is the 400 cc of blood I donated? How could it be wasted this way?" said Ren Ze, a student.
The gardener has since posted a note of apology, claiming he obtained the blood plasma from a hospital friend after finding that the plasma had deterioration.
Some people were not convinced since the attached label indicated that the blood plasma, collected at 1:44 pm, 3 October, 2009 would not expire until October 3, 2014.
The Chengdu Health Bureau has launched an investigation, the Guangzhou-based newspaper reported.
According to blood management regulations, deteriorated blood products should be submitted to higher health authorities for proper disposal.
