Snow traps Tibetans

A heavy snowstorm left 200 Tibetans and about 1,000 livestock trapped in Ali Prefecture in the Tibet Autonomous Region. Police said Sunday that the snow in Burang county is between 30 centimeters and 1 meter high.

County Party Secretary Yang Lin said 25 houses collapsed, and several hundred yaks died because of the cold.

About 180 Tibetans were rescued. Rescuers gave shoes and sunglasses to the victims.
