700 Morakot victims found during rescue work in Taiwan

Taiwan's military spotted over 700 flood victims in Shiao Lin village and Na Ma Xia town, Kaohsiung county yesterday night as they conducted a blanket search in disaster-stricken area.

All those found have been evacuated to safe place and are waiting for rescue helicopters.

According to a report from a local newspaper, the United Daily News, 5,806 soldiers were dispatched to conduct rescue work yesterday, among which 179 were from special operations forces.

Min Zu village and Min Quan village in Na Ma Xia town still remain intact with about 200 and 300 people in safe condition, the military reported to the command center, sending back coordinates of the two villages.

Hu Jui-Chou, head of the No.8 army corps said all the soldiers were equipped with food, water and first-aid kits which would be provided to victims in need and they would be rescued in the morning.
