China's online game exports exceed $70m

In 2008 China exported over 30 online games to more than 20 countries and regions including North America, Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Exports of online games reached $71.78 million, 30.5 percent higher than the same period last year, making the overseas market a new profit sector.
Five major companies in China have a 94.3 percent share in the overseas market. Perfect world Entertainment Inc. took the lead for its 35 percent market share and exports worth 209 million yuan. Following behind is Wanglong Trading Co. with 21.9 percent market share and 131 million yuan in exports.
The third is Kingsoft Co. with 15.5 percent market share and exports of 92.4 million yuan. Next is E You with 14.6 percent of the market and export worth 87 million yuan. Fifth is Shanda Interactive Entertainment Limited with a 7.3 percent market share and exports of 4.34 million yuan.
China’s online games are mainly exported to Southeast Asia, taking 51.2 percent of the market, followed by 28.3 percent shared by Europe and the US. Japan and Korea have a 14.4 percent share, and other markets including Africa and Australia take about 6.1 percent.
