24 more monitored over CCTV building fire

Twenty-four more people related to the CCTV building fire in February are being monitored by the authorities. The State Administration of Work Safety says in the ongoing investigation that the fire was caused by human error.

The members of the State Council ordered an investigation that began April 9, looking into who was responsible for the accident and assess the financial losses from the Feb 9 fire.

The on-site investigation is now complete, and is confirmed that the fire was caused by setting off fireworks illegally in the construction site. Also, no government approval was sought beforehand to set off these fireworks, which were similar to the ones used in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Previously 12 other people allegedly involved in the accident were arrested March 17. Three more CCTV staff were detained on May 22.
