Chinese public opinion demands severe punishment of rioters

Condemnation against the violence spread from Xinjiang to the rest of China on July 6. More than 40,000 web users participated in a survey by Huanqiu.com Monday asking, "What are your views on the serious riots in Urumqi?"

The results showed over 95 percent of Internet users were "very angry" and thought "the criminals should be severely punished". Some online users expressed support for the government to severely crack down on the troublemakers to safeguard social order and  people's welfare. One left a message saying, "Tell the separatists: We cherish peace, but we are not afraid of rebellion".
