Twenty-nine Beijing officials at the bureau level or above were tried last month for crimes involving more than 334 million yuan ($49 million), an official said yesterday.

The number of officials and the amount of money involved were both higher than for the same period of last year, Luo Shouliang, director of the Accusing and Appealing Department of the People’s Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality, said.

In the past 18 months, Beijing’s prosecutors investigated 400 cases of job-related crimes involving 472 people, he said.
