15 coal miners trapped

Fifteen miners were trapped in a coal mine in Guizhou that flooded Wednesday, a provincial work safety official said yesterday.

The Xinqiao coal mine in Qinglong county flooded at about 4 pm Wednesday, when 30 people were working underground, the official from the Guizhou Provincial Work Safety Administration said. Fifteen men escaped unharmed.

Rescue work is continuing and the cause of the flood is being investigated, he said.
