Fatal bus crash

A bus carrying 27 passengers plunged down a hill in East China's Zhejiang Province on Wednesday. At least 10 passengers were killed.

The bus went off the road at around 2:30 pm. and stopped on the hillside in the mountainous city of Jiangshan. Some passengers were trapped in the vehicle.

More than 300 people, including police officers, soldiers, medical workers and government officials pitched in the search and rescue work.

Rescuers had found all passengers, but 10 had died. The others were rushed to hospitals.

10 years for official

The former director of the construction bureau in Longquan, Zhejiang Province was sentenced to 10 years in prison and had 50,000 yuan ($7,318) confiscated for corruption charges, it was reported on Wednesday.

A local court ruled that Zhang received 110,000 yuan ($16,100) in bribes between August 2006 and October 2008.

Canada repatriates suspect

Canadian police repatriated a Chinese man, Liu Xiaoquan, who was wanted in China, the Ministry of Public Security said on Wednesday.

Liu, who had fled to the United States and Canada, is being detained for investigation.

Liu allegedly defrauded 400,000 yuan ($59,000) by using a fake contract in 2006.

The ministry said cooperation with Canada's police would be strengthened in the future.

Court upholds sentences

The Higher People's Court of Guangdong Province on Wednesday upheld the sentences of death and life imprisonment on two men involved in a brawl that left two Uygur workers dead.

The court upheld that Xiao Jianhua, a former worker at Xuri Toy Factory in Shaoguan, was the brawl principal instigator. His co-worker, Xu Qiqi, was convicted of causing injuries.

The court will submit its decision on Xiao's death sentence to the Supreme People's Court for approval.
