Prison head sacked

The head of the Hohhot No 2 Prison, Zhang Heping, was removed from his post Monday after four inmates had killed a guard and escaped. The prison's deputy party secretary, Liu Jianbin and deputy prison head Deng Jianshe, Sun Yulong and Wang Weiping, were also punished.

Authorities are investigating the prison break. Police said they intend to file seven charges against the convicts, including murder and robbery.

Police said the inmates commandeered a taxi under the guise of public security officers.
