Police tracking convicts

Police are close to re-capturing four inmates who killed a prison officer and fled from a prison in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, northnews.cn reported Monday.

The website said the four inmates are hiding near Shebiya town, Helingeer county, but didn't explain when they might be nabbed.

More than 100 police cars were deployed at the location, the website reported.

Phoenix TV reported that the inmates were heading south to Shanxi Province. The report, citing police sources, reported that the falling temperature proved to be a problem for the inmates who only got about 700 yuan ($102).

The inmates killed a corrections officer and wounded a guard before fleeing the prison Saturday.
