11 indicted over brawl
Eleven people who involved in a toy factory brawl in South China's Guangdong Province, that left two employees dead, have been indicted for intentional injury and group fight, procurators said on Wednesday.
Xiao Jianhua and four other suspects were indicted for intentionally assaulting people during the Xuri Toy Factory brawl June 26, the Shaoguan People's Procuratorate said.
Lu Xiaoqiang and another five allegedly participated in the group affray, said the Wujiang District People's Procuratorate of Shaoguan.
The 11 suspects ignored the law and caused heavy casualties and property losses, the procurators said.
Other suspects in the brawl, which left two Uygur employees dead and many injured, are also facing imminent indictment.
Official falls to death
A senior commerce bureau official in East China's Anhui Province was confirmed dead after falling from a government building on Wednesday, according to the local government.
Zhou Xin, head of the Anqing Commerce Bureau, fell from a government office building at around midday.
Foul play was ruled out after an initial investigation, the city's public security bureau official said.
Police are investigating the case.
Nature's deadly toll
More than 88,900 people were killed or went missing in natural disasters in China in 2008, and about 470 million people were affected, according to a government report on Wednesday.
More than 26.82 million people were relocated and the total direct economic loss was put at 1,175.24 billion yuan ($172.16 billion), according to a report issued by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
The great losses were due to successive unprecedented large-scale natural disasters that had swept much of the country, according to the assessment report on the prevention of natural disasters.
Xinjiang employment
Businesses in Xinjiang region are now required to hire at least half of their new employees from among local residents, according to a government policy issued on Wednesday.
All companies registered in Xinjiang and those who take up projects in the region, are subject to the new policy.
The regional government will offer the newly recruited locals subsidies worth half of their pension fees for three years.
It also urged businesses to recruit more ethnic minority people.
