300,000 volunteers wanted

A total of 300,000 community volunteers will be involved in the security effort for the National Day celebrations in Beijing, an official said Tuesday.

They will perform a wide variety duties to support the work of 220,000 security guards and 3,000 police, armed police and firefighters, Ma Zhenchun, director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, told the Xinhua News Agency.

There are now just over three months until National Day, which falls on October 1.
