The following are highlights of the ongoing tour of Chinese President Hu Jintao in the United States to participate a series of UN meetings and the G20 Summit, on the sidelines of which he met foreign leaders.
UNITED NATIONS -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Tuesday in New York the international community should tackle global climate change through common development, calling for international joint work and pledging China's continued efforts on this issue.
"Global climate change has a profound impact on the existence and development of mankind and is a major challenge facing all countries," the president said when addressing a UN climate change summit.
Meanwhile, the president said to further integrate actions on climate change into its economic and social development plan.
Hu also highlighted four principles needed for a successful concerted effort to deal with climate change worldwide, namely fulfilling respective responsibilities, achieving mutual benefit and a win-win outcome, promoting common development and ensuring financing and technology.
NEW YORK -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met his US counterpart Barack Obama here on Tuesday to exchange views on bilateral ties and other important issues of common concern.
The Chinese president said China-US relations are now showing a sound momentum of development, and the two countries are developing a positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship.
Obama said he is committed to building a genuine, cooperative and comprehensive relationship between the two countries. He expressed the willingness to further advance the cooperative relations.
NEW YORK -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma met here on Tuesday to discuss further development of bilateral ties between China and South Africa.
Hu and Zuma were meeting on the sidelines of a series of UN meetings.
NEW YORK -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy pledged to promote bilateral relations while meeting in New York Monday.
Hu said a good momentum has appeared recently in relations between the two countries, marked by increased high-level exchanges and a resumption of pragmatic cooperation in a variety of fields.
Sarkozy stressed that the French-Chinese comprehensive strategic partnership was very important to France, and that the French side was willing to join hands with the Chinese to build a bright future for bilateral relations.
NEW YORK -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama agreed to advance their bilateral ties during a meeting Monday on the sidelines of UN meetings.
"I wish and believe that during the tenure of Prime Minister Hatoyama, China-Japan relations will show a new state of more active growth and usher in a greater prospect," Hu said during the meeting.
Hatoyama, who agreed with Hu's proposal to advance bilateral ties, said Japan would concentrate on promoting the relationship, which is based on common strategic interests.
Monday's meeting was the first between the two leaders since Hatoyama was elected as prime minister on Sept. 16.
