The Chinese government honored role models who made major contributions to ethnic harmony Tuesday attended by President Hu Jintao.

The president encouraged everyone to promote harmony and prosperity.

At the ceremony, 739 organizations and 749 individuals received awards from the State Council.

China would work hard to promote equal and harmonious relations among every ethnic group and improve social security and living standards in all ethnic minority areas, Hu said in his keynote speech.
