The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said 3G technology and its electronic products would not have a negative impact on human health or the environment, in responding to a petition from Dong Zhengwei, a Beijing lawyer.

A petition by Dong submitted in March asked the authority to disclose the evaluation of 3G electronic radiation, its pricing procedure and standards.

The range of electromagnetic radiation of all mobile phones is the same as many countries in the world, according to MIIT, which also announced that China has stricter rules in evaluating mobile communication base stations compared to the international standard.

The ministry also said more than 99 percent of electronic products meet the national standards of the electromagnetic index after a number of surveys were conducted by MIIT.

“It’s safe to use both 2G and 3G mobile phones as long as they meet the standard,” the ministry said.

As to the pricing of the new technology, MIIT said, “Telecommunications enterprises will continue to use the old pricing standard of 2G”.

After issuing 3G licenses, service providers China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom have invested in the 3G program by using their own funds.
